Obituary for Robert A. Jones



Robert A Jones, 73, of 313 4th Ave. died unexpectedly at 5 pm Monday, Oct. 18, 1982 in his home, apparently following a heart attack. Mr. Jones retired as owner and operator of the Jones Insurance Agency in 1972. after more than 40 years service. He was also an alderman for more than 20 years. He was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Juniata, the son of Charles E. and Clara A. (Parker) Jones and April 13, 1932, in Claysburg, married Catharine Jones, who died July 11, 1972. Surviving are five children: Mrs. Clara Hamel of Juniata, Mrs. Roberta Gardner of Edgewood, Md.; Mrs. Wilma Sorrick of Nazareth, William of Hellertown and Richard of Washington, DC; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Alice Shane of Harper's Ferry, Va. Mr. Jones was a member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hiram Lodge, FAM, Altoona Scottish Rite Bodie, Jaffa Shrine Temple, Heidelberg Country Club, Frohsinn Singing Society, Bavarian Aid Society, Eagles, Fraternal Order of Police and Lions Club, where he served as past president of the Altoona Lions Club and served on the board of directors of the Pleasant Valley Lions Club. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Interment in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery - Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Rev. John Tarrer and Rev. Charles Harshberger
