Joan Kay (Shane) Mackenzie, 84, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born on December 28, 1929, in Sandy Spring, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Norris D. and Alice (Jones) Shane. Her husband, Markwood G. Mackenzie, Sr, preceded her in death in 1982.Joan was a graduate from Poolesville High School, and worked for over 20 years for Sears and Roebuck in both Frederick and Hagerstown. She was formerly a member of the Frederick Presbyterian Church and recently was active with the Boonsboro Senior Citizens Group. She is survived by two sons, Markwood G. Mackenzie, Jr. and wife Gina of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Donald N. Mackenzie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two sisters, Sara Warner and husband Patrick of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Elizabeth Malloy and husband Tom of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Allen Shane and wife Jan of Williamsport, Maryland and Phillip Shane and wife Linda of Accident, Maryland; and four grandchildren, Markwood L. Mackenzie of Sharpsburg, Nathan M. Mackenzie and wife Danielle of Funkstown, Maryland, Jen Stanley and husband Mike, and Dan Hall, all of Martinsburg. 

She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Kellen M. Mackenzie, Landon M, and Logan T. Stanley. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David and James Shane. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Pastor Lowell McDonald will officiate. Joan will be laid to rest with her husband at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland in a private ceremony to be held at the convenience of the family.
